Stepping Away from the News and Finding My Way Back to Blogging
Written and published on November 11th, 2024
Lately, I’ve been taking a break from the news, a move that began before the election but has since intensified. For much of the year, I followed events closely, but I’ve come to feel that many mainstream news sources no longer offer a reliable window into the truth. It’s not just the political parties that shape what we hear; the vast majority of major media outlets are owned by large corporations with interests that extend beyond informing the public. Their goals seem more rooted in promoting corporate-friendly policies and a government that favors big business over ordinary people.
These outlets often encourage us to see other people as the problem, making it harder for people to get along or work together. This observation isn’t new, but it’s something I feel deeply. The result? The news feels like a minefield, skewed by biases that make it barely worth reading.
Alongside this news break, I’ve also been weaning myself off social media. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Reddit were part of my daily life for a while, but being on them didn’t make me any happier. If anything, they amplified my frustrations about where we’re headed as a society. The anger and disillusionment never seemed to lead to any solutions. So, as much as possible, I’m stepping away from both the news and social media.
In their place, I’m returning to an old love: blogging. I’ve always enjoyed writing and sharing ideas, and this new site feels different from what I had back in the early days. It may lack the visual polish of WordPress or Squarespace, but it gives me a certain freedom. Right now, it’s all about functionality and a straightforward setup—what I need to write without distractions. Comments aren’t available just yet, but I’m working on adding them soon.
For those of you who’ve stumbled across this new venture, I hope you find something here that resonates with you. Thanks for reading—I’m excited to be back in this space, sharing thoughts and making connections that feel more meaningful than ever.
